Watch the video and then continue:

WhatI did not realize after watching this video was who shot it, if you read the video title it says Opie's Eye. If you don't pick up on it, don't worry neither did I untillI followed the links. It was none other than Opie, from the Opie and Anthony show on XM satellite radio.

Opie, who attended the game, was embarrassed by the "minor league" Chuck-A-Puck promotion the Islanders had during the intermission. You can hear in thevideoOpie and his friendgiving their input on it, "Stupid" and"This isminor League Shit." Opiealso tweeted, "I'm so embarrassed by what they did between periods at the Islander game last night."If you think about it,it sort of is in a way, most NHL teams to my knowldegedo not have anything like this, but can be seen in many AHL and other junior league arenas. It was seen back at the coliseum when ths Sound Tigers played the Penguins in the AHL playoffs and seemed to be a big hit. So i assume the Islanders brass thought they'd try it out with the Isles.

What irks me about these comments is, whats the big deal? Is ourhockey team judged on their in game promotions or their play on the ice. I look as these comments and see someone who is way too nit picky about every single detail and needs to just lighten up.Going to a game is suppose to be a fun, family friendly experience and whileit may get out ofhand (especially atan Isles/Ragsgame) the promotions and in game entertainment is geared toward that. If that is "minor league" than so be it, if it's stupid so be it,this is one areai have to say, just let itgo forgod's sake. IS IT THAT BIG OF A DEAL.

For the record though this was not aimed at Opie in particular, he just had the remarks that inspired this post. Also their is one thing i would suggest doing, maybe give the arena hostes a pair flat shoes and a pairof jeans (or atleast a longer skirt). Come on how is she really suppose to walk the ice and bend over to pick up a puck without having to try (really hard)not to show more than she wants to.

Okposo, Moulson, Tavares lift the Isles over the Rags, 3-1 http://islandershockeyblog.com/2009-articles/october/okposo-moulson-tavares-lift-the-isles-over-the-rags-3-1.html http://islandershockeyblog.com/2009-articles/october/okposo-moulson-tavares-lift-the-isles-over-the-rags-3-1.html

The Islanders/Rangers is always a game fierce intensity and brings the best out of both teams. Tonight it was our best that won out, The confident play, the outstanding penalty kill and great play by every one from Kyle Okposo (tonight's second star) to Dwayne Roloson (tonight's first star). The Islanders managed to do something they have not done all year, hold a third period lead and win in regulation.

It was a quick start for the Islanders, who seemed determined to win tonight. It took just 55 seconds for the Islanders to jump on the board as Matt Moulson broke free and beat Henrik Lundqvist to give the Isles the 1-0 lead. The Rangers would turn the tide though picking up play and pressuring the Roloson and the Islanders. Then at 8:50 PA Parenteau backhanded one past Roloson to tie the game at one. The Islanders tied resilient continueing to play aggressively and getting to the front of the net, creating scoring chances. Andy Sutton would end the period with two bone rattling hits on Prospal and Callihan eliciting loud cheers from the Islanders fans in the crowd. ]]> ChristianArn312@aol.com (Christian A. ) October Thu, 29 Oct 2009 01:51:00 +0000 A look back at the Islanders/Rangers Rivalry http://islandershockeyblog.com/2009-articles/october/a-look-back-at-the-islandersrangers-rivalry.html http://islandershockeyblog.com/2009-articles/october/a-look-back-at-the-islandersrangers-rivalry.html Originally i wrote this peice for my school paper and since today is the first Islanders/Rangers game of the season i thought id put up here. Enjoy the piece and hopefully ill have a pre game piece up before they drop the puck.

New York Islanders Vs New York Rangers

Probably one of the most vicious, heated, and long running rivalries in New York has to be the Islanders Vs Rangers. Originating back in 1972, when the NHL awarded New York with a second NHL team, the Islanders and Rangers have been involved in the most intense and bizarre moments in New York sports history.

In 1975, the Islanders made the playoffs for the first time in franchise history against their rival, the Rangers. The grueling three game series ended when Islanders forward J.P Parise scored eleven seconds into overtime in game three. The two would meet seven more times, in 1979 when the Rangers defeated the Islanders in six games. From 1981-1984 the Isles would defeat the Rangers each year in the playoffs, and twice in 1990 and 1994, where the Rangers defeated the Islanders both times, including on their way to their first Stanley Cup since 1940. ]]> ChristianArn312@aol.com (Christian A. ) October Wed, 28 Oct 2009 19:03:46 +0000 Islanders Hockey Blog Goal Song Petition, JUST SIGN IT http://islandershockeyblog.com/2009-articles/october/islanders-goal-song-petition-just-sign-it.html http://islandershockeyblog.com/2009-articles/october/islanders-goal-song-petition-just-sign-it.html

Come back kids fall short yet again, Isles lose 3-2 http://islandershockeyblog.com/2009-articles/october/come-back-kids-fall-short-yet-again-isles-lose-3-2.html http://islandershockeyblog.com/2009-articles/october/come-back-kids-fall-short-yet-again-isles-lose-3-2.html

The Islanders once again fell short, losing 3-2 in overtime to the Montreal Canadians. The Isles come away with a point but it does not make up for another missed opportunity for a win because of sloppy play at crucial game moments. The Isles did have their bright spots including the outstanding effort of Jeff Tamballini and Martin Biron. Tamballini, who has been competing for his job against Rob Schremp since the start of the season dazzled many tonight as he netted the only two Islander goals.

In the first the only goal would be scored by Jaroslav Spacek who stealthily snuck up the right side of the net and wristed one home past an unaware Marty Biron giving the Habs the 1-0 lead. The Habs would out shoot the Isles 12-11 and did not allow many opportunities during the two Islander power plays.

In the second, Montreal would continue their penelty spree and they would pay for it big time. At 16:56 Max Pacioretty was sent to the box for too many men on the ice, two minutes later it would be Jeff Tamballini who manuvered his way to the front of the net and put one through the legs of Jaroslav Halak. The Isles and Habs would go into the Locker room in a one all tie setting up an interesting third period.

It would take the Canadians a mere 7:44 into the third to jump back on top as Travis Moen trickled one passed Biron to give the Habs a one goal lead. The Islanders would miss an early opportunity tie the game back up, but Bruno Gervais hit the cross bar on a shot that beat Halak. The resilient Islanders did not give up though and with 4:16 left in the period Jeff Tamballini Beat Halak again to tie the game back up, subsequently forcing an overtime. The good times did not roll into overtime though, just 1:32 on a bad defensive play by the Islanders Roman Hamrlink beat a sprawling Biron winning the game for the Canadians.
