One of the Islanders biggest assets is back and ready for the 2011-12 NHL season. A healthy Mark Streit skated with the team today at Ice Works in Syosset.
“I’m in good shape and great Spirits,” Mark Streit said following his on ice session. “I’m really excited for training camp, the first preseason game, and for the upcoming season.”
Streit missed all of last season with a torn shoulder Labrum and celebrity news rotator cuff sustained during an inter squad scrimmage at the Nassau Coliseum.
During the off-season Streit skated with his hometown team, which is now in their preseason.
“I worked really hard on my rehab,” Streit later said. “So I’m really, really excited to practice with the guys, to be in the locker room, to play in training camp, and then start the new season.”
Streit’s presence, along with the return of other injured players, was a welcomed site for the head coach Jack Capuano.
“It was good to see those guys on the ice,” Capuano said. It’s tough when you get injured and you cant be a part of your team and the camaraderie. It’s a long rehab and a lot of work involved in it, so to see those guys out on the ice today, I’m sure they were pretty excited as well among with their teammates.”
“it was painful and a torture not to play and not to help out the guys,” Streit later added.
Back on the Ice Streit doesn’t seem to have lost his touch. Streit blasted shot at the goalies between the pipes and looked fine in the treacherous skating drills the team ran. Streit is looking to have a good camp and good year.
“I expect a lot out of me and the team,” Streit said. “We want to do great this year. I want to start hard and play well and play on a high level.”
