Updated 3:40- Newsday's Katie Strang and TSN's Bob McKenzie broke the news that Nabokov will not report to Long Island after they claimed him. The New York Islanders official twitter account red the following: "Everything is on the up-and-up. We are waiting to speak to him," said Snow. Reports also indicate that Snow does have a flight prepared for Nabokov for tomorrow. Will update as the story develops.
The Islanders released a tweet around noon today reading that the team has claimed goaltender Evgeni Nabokov off of waivers.
A little history: Over nine seasons in the National Hockey League, all with San Jose, the Russian netminder has become the Sharks leader in nearly every goaltending category, including games played, wins, and shutouts. He was named as the starting goaltender for Team Russia in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
Last year with San Jose, Evgeni carried a 2.43 GAA, and had a .992 SV%.
All in all, the star goaltender should prove to be a great addition to the Islanders team.
