28 February 2011
Hello all and welcome to the 2011 Trade Deadline Live Blog. I will be giving live updates of trades as they happen here on the Islanders Hockey Blog. I will be utilizing multiple different media outlets for sources as I gather information about completed and rumored trades and updating this article live as many times as necessary. The deadline is at 3pm eastern today, but because of the volume of movement today, trades always break after that 3pm deadline, so I'll be hanging around as long as is needed to report and give analysis on all the trades. Stay tuned here to the IHB for all of your trade deadline news.
Here’s the final rundown on all of the trades that happened near or after the 3pm deadline.
The Rangers get John Mitchell and a 2012 seventh round pick from the Maple Leafs for a seventh round pick
The Canucks get Chris Higgins from the Panthers for Evan Oberg and a third round pick
The Flyers get Tom Sestito from the Blue Jackets for Greg Moore and Michael Chaput
The Canucks get Max Lapierre and MacGregor Sharp from the Ducks for Joel Perreault and a third round pick
The Canadiens get Drew MacIntyre from the Thrashers for Brett Festerling
The Capitals get Jason Arnott from the Devils for David Steckel and a second round pick
The Flames get Freddy Modin from the Thrashers for a seventh round pick
The Bruins get Anton Khudobin from the Wild for Jeff Penner and the rights to Mikko Lehtonen
Thanks for making the Islanders Hockey Blog your destination for the NHL’s trade deadline.
Updated 3:20: The Capitals traded for Jason Arnott, the Canucks have picked up Chris Higgins and Maxim Lapierre and the Flames have added Freddy Modin from Atlanta.
Updated 2:28: Dustin Penner has been traded to the Los Angeles Kings for a first round pick this year, a conditional third round pick next year and minor leaguer Colten Teubert. The Oilers make their first move of the day and the Kings get their offensive player they’ve been looking for.
Updated 2:19: Anaheim has acquired Brad Winchester from the St. Louis Blues for a 3rd round pick. Winchester will add to the forward depth of the Ducks as they look to push back into the Western playoff picture while the Blues get a pick to help add more pieces for the future.
Updated 2:13: Florida has traded Bryan Allen to Carolina for Sergei Samsonov. This trade has been in the works for over 30 minutes and is another movement of role players.
Updated 1:59: Chris Campoli and a conditional seventh round pick has been traded from Ottawa to the Chicago Blackhawks. It is known that the Hawks have wanted to add another defenseman and they have apparently found their guy in Campoli. Ladislav Smid of Edmonton had been rumored as the player but that has obviously fallen through. Ottawa will receive Ryan Potulny and a 2011 conditional second round pick.
Updated 1:41: A minor trade has been made between Colorado and Edmonton as the Avalanche acquire Shawn Belle and the Oilers receive Kevin Montgomery.
Updated 12:56: Rostislav Klesla and Dane Byers of the Blue Jackets has been traded to the Phoenix Coyotes for Scottie Upshall and Sami Lepisto. This is a good trade for both teams but I think Columbus may end up winning in the long run with this one. Will it be enough for them to make the playoffs? Probably not, but it does increase their chances.
Updated 12:35: Here’s some updates on key players whose names have been whirling all week long about being moved:
John-Michael Liles-Reports had him going to Toronto but the Avalanche’s asking price seems to be too high for what the team is willing to do. The Blue Jackets name has now been thrown in the hat as far as interested teams.
Jason Arnott-The veteran has reportedly said he only wants to be traded if it’s to a team that is definitely going to make the playoffs, otherwise he’d rather stay in New Jersey.
Stephen Weiss-Toronto’s name has again come up in regards to Weiss but nothing substantial just yet.
Brad Richards-Still dealing with concussion symptoms, Richards, who has a no-trade clause, has said he will only waive the clause to be dealt to the New York Rangers. But with one offensive star already dealing with a concussion in Marion Gaborik, you have to wonder if the Rangers will trade for a player that they don’t know how much they’ll get out of.
Updated 12:14: The Florida Panthers continue dealing as they have sent Radek Dvorak and a 2010 5th round pick to the Atlanta Thrashers for Patrick Rissmiller and Niclas Bergfors. The Panthers continue to move older players for young pieces.
Updated 12:05: Rob Schremp's time as a New York Islander has come to an end. He was just claimed off waivers by the Atlanta Thrashers. Schremp had 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points this season with the Islanders.
Updated 11:54: In non Islanders related trades, the Washington Capitals have Aquired Dennis Wideman from the Panthers for a third round pick and Jake Hauswirth.
Update 11:32 : Starting this earlier than expected folks because of the increasing chatter that Islanders Zenon Konopka will be delt today. Early reports had Isles GM Garth Snow in talks with Canucks, but those talks have ended. Now the Fourth Period is reporting that he could be delt to Anaheim for a second round pick. However TSN saying he wont end up there. More to come
