Can it get any worse? The Islanders fell to the Anaheim Ducks 1-0 last night in a game that could have ended the Islanders depressing losing streak. Prior to the Wednesday’s game it seemed as though the Islanders were finally coming out of the woods and ready to start win. Their play had improved immensely and the team was showing flashes of what fans had seen early on in the season.

That brings us to last night, a game they outshot the Ducks 27-14 and held their opponent to just one measly shot on goal in the first. This was a team that was fed up with losing and was coming to play and fans saw it. Matt Martin hit people (like he always does), Zenon Konopka well he was Zenon Konopka and hell even Radek Martinek dropped the gloves.

With all this happening this was sure to be a sign of change for the better right? Wrong, the Islanders could not get their offensive production going for the 8th time in a row going 0 for 6 on the power play and being stone walled on 27 shots by Ducks goaltender Curtis McElhinney. Although James Wisniewski did get one by him, however it was called off due to a high stick. No breaks for the Islanders the past 8 games.

To make it worse after the Islander missed several opportunities on the power play and then seconds after it expired Saku Koivu netted the only and game winning goal for Anaheim extending the Islanders woes.  And while the game may not have been a total failure for the Islanders they are sure sick and tired of the moral victories and games of finding the bright spots.

For now though the Islanders can just look at the positives and turn it around tonight against a san Jose Sharks team that has won 4 of their last 8 and is coming off a s 3-2 overtime loss to the same ducks the Isles fell to last night.
