According to Newsday’s Katie Strang, the Ilya Kovalchuk sweepstakes just got really, REALLY, interesting for Islanders fans. GM Snow confirmed to both Newsday and ESPN that he contacted Kovalchuk's representatives and the LA Times is reporting that the Isles are proposing an offer worth $10 million a year for 10 years. Remember, the Islanders have $32M in cap room, and they’re $9M from the cap floor. Ilya, of course, played for the New Jersey Devils last season, and he is un-rivaled, the best free-agent available at this point. The Islanders, Devils and Kings are now the three main bidders in this sweepstakes. However, it seems that no deal will be reached at any time this weekend.
STAY POSTED, MORE NEWS LIKELY TO COME ON THE KOVALCHUK SITUATION
